FAQ
Answers To Your Questions
If you’ve got any questions, Vital Locums Agency is here to answer all of them. Please consult our list of frequently asked questions in order to find answers to your doubts. If you still have additional questions after going through our list, then contact us. We would love to hear from you.
What does locum mean?
Locum tenens is a Latin phrase that essentially carries the idea of holding the place of someone else. You’re at Disneyworld, waiting in a long line, and you have to leave momentarily. You ask a bystander if they can hold your place for you until you return. That’s the idea of the locum tenens provider. You, as a group provider, must leave for a period of time. Someone needs to be made available as a place holder, someone who can take your cases and see your patients so that the group continues to operate in an optimal fashion until your return.
I’d like to start- what do I need to do?
Email us! info@vitallocumsagency.com and we can help you start your LLC, your business bank account and find an assignment that matches your needs.
Can I be a Locum provider right after residency and/or licensing for a CRNA?
Yes you can! As long as you have an active license there is no need to wait.
Will I need to constantly travel?
Not necessarily. There are ways to stay in the same city or area for many years. I've done it and so can you.
How will I get paid?
We will submit payment directly to your company (LLC) with bi-weekly payment statements. At the end of each year we will provide you with a tax document for you to file your taxes.
Will I need malpractice insurance?
Yes. You always need malpractice insurance coverage. We will provide you with malpractice insurance unless you are staffing on a per diem schedule, then you will need to purchase your own moonlighting insurance policy.
Will I be provided health insurance?
No. This is an agency assignment, a 1099 position. Because its not a W2 position there is no option for health insurance through us. However you can easily acquire health insurance in the open market that fits your needs.
Why work as a locum (1099) provider?
As a business entity (LLC) you will have different and better tax obligations with the IRS. You are also filling in a needed gap and in business whenever there is less supply and more demand the compensation is much higher.
Where can I get moonlighting malpractice insurance?
The easiest way is to visit your association website: AANA if you are a Nurse Anesthetist or the ASA if you are an Anesthesiologist.
